課程概述

This course is designed to familiarize doctoral students with current theoretical developments and empirical research on the international entry strategies facing MNE’s. International entry strategy, be it wholly-owned mode, cooperative or alliance strategy, or contractual form, is the initial important decision that MNE’s have to make for their international expansion and the studies on the antecedents and consequences of such an important strategy has been well documented in international business literature. Several major themes will particularly be focused in this course as follows:

I. Eclectic Paradigm in International Business Studies
II. Overview of Entry Mode Studies
III. Antecedents Affecting Choice of International Entry Mode
IV. Structuring and Governing International Entry Modes

The course is in seminar format. Students are required to comprehend all the weekly reading assignments before the class begins, and are required to hand in a 3-page discussion and critique on the weekly assignments. The active participation by the students is also highly anticipated, and you will be assigned with papers to present and lead the discussion for each session. In addition, at the end of each topic, students are required to write an essay summarizing and integrating literature as well as providing critiques and future research suggestions. Finally, students are required to accomplish an academic paper toward the end of the class. You are asked to hand in an outline of the paper three weeks before the class ends, and make a presentation at the final week.
